Structure

General Form of Organisation

Corporation according to US Law; registered in Washington D.C., as a 'non stock, non profit corporation', at the same time a affiliated scholarly institution of the University of Munich (§ 129 V BayHSchG [Bavarian Law on Universities])

The Institute is managed by the Board of Directors which meets as needed, but at least every five years. Recently the meetings have taken place on the occasion of the International Congress of Medieval Canon Law. The Board consists of a minimum of 9 members and a maximum of 15 persons, whereby only the President, the Chairman - who is simultaneously the President's deputy- the Secretary and the Treasurer are Officers, that is to say they have a specifically defined function. For their assistance, there also exists a managing committee, the Executive Commitee, consisting of 3 - 5 members. The election of the Officers and the members of the Committee is carried out by the Board of Directors. The whole is supported by an Advisory Board, the members of which are elected by the Board of Directors for five-year terms. These consultants are not only to provide their expert knowledge to aid in the work of the Institute but are also expected to communicate the Institutes work to the outside world.

Since 1988 the Institute has been sponsored in its efforts by the Iuris Canonici Medii Aevi Consociatio/Society of Medieval Canon Law, an organisation in accordance with Swiss Law that has its headquarters in Zurich, and has provided organisational aid for the  congresses, as well as increasingly lending financial support.
